Zack Martin to the Dolphins #KRM
Despite what you read in the last post, this is a slam dunk pick. The Dolphins grab the best offensive lineman left on the board, Zack Martin, Tackle from Notre Dame.1 The only other pick would be Xavier Su’a-Filo, the consensus top guard in the draft.
The best offensive lineman on the board is the pick for two reasons.
(Yes that was a cheap excuse to liven up the page with a pic of Tannehill’s wife).
The Dolphins really need to decide if Tannehill is a QB for the future. They need to determine if his Football Outsider ranking between Kellen Clemens and Michael Vick is an indication of his ability or an indication of the 30th ranked offensive line in pass protection.
Of course you could also point to a lackluster set of offensive weapons, aside from the Claymaker. Wallace was a bust as a first year free agent signee, coming in at 77th in DVOA for wide receivers. Receivers 2-4 on the depth chart all missed significant time, and the running game was no help.
So it would seem the Dolphins can go any number of ways on offense, except…
Oh yeah, those guys…
The Dolphins can’t possibly get away from this Incognito/Martin silliness fast enough.
Another starting offensive lineman from last year was also cut (John Jerry) for a combination of poor play and participation in the events that precipitated Martin leaving the team. Despite signing two lineman in free agency, there are huge holes on the offensive line, and Martin projects well as a left tackle in a couple years.
Of course, there is the consideration of bringing in a Tackle named “Martin,” which is a not crazy reason for the Dolphins choose Su’a-Filo instead.
Ok Trashy, when you put it that way, it makes sense.
Next up, the return of Jeff Rich for a local take on the Arizona Cardinals.
